Godot Switch
Recently I decided to switch to Godot instead of using Unreal Engine. My main thing to switch to Godot is that its good enough and since I wanted to scope the game down and make it more achievable with my time and skills. I think its better to start in 2024 with an open sourced engine to get a game out instead of worrying about licenses and other issues. i want to make games and see if I can publish it.
Some Cons of Unreal
· Large Engine Size
· Blueprints can get messy even though its easy.
· Geared for 3D Games and complex art production pipelines.
· Not good for solo devs if you are a beginner and working on it part time.
Godot Pros
· Small Engine file size (Yay)
· Good 2D Tools
· 3D is ok but I am not using it much for this project
· Integrated IDE
· C# Support so if you have Unity Chops you can still use C#
Godot Cons
· No native console port (Though you can get a port house to work on it)
· No Visual Scripting (Need a GD Extension / addon which is available at https://orchestrator.vahera.com/)
· VSCode not that integrated (You can select it in the options or install a plugin)
